Each trend's momentum score is a weighted composite of eight real signal types - patent filing velocity (25%), academic paper volume (20%), developer interest (15%), editorial mentions (12%), Wikipedia public-attention momentum (10%), technical whitepapers (8%), job posting velocity (6%) and federal regulatory activity (4%) - combined into a single 0-100 score. It recalculates every week as new signals are ingested, never from an AI guess.
A failed, published startup whose resurrection score - built from why it failed, how long ago, how much capital it raised (proof the underlying pain was real), and its current alignment with an accelerating trend - clears a fixed threshold. Shutting down alone isn't enough; the score has to clear that bar.
We match a concept's extracted keywords and patent classification codes against each trend's own vocabulary. Once a real match is found, a concept's commercialisation stage only ever advances from fictional toward mainstream - it never regresses.
Signal ingestion jobs run weekly (patents, academic papers, technical whitepapers), twice weekly (editorial mentions, Wikipedia attention, federal regulatory activity) and daily (developer interest, job posting velocity), followed by a weekly correlation pass that recomputes every momentum score and re-checks every sci-fi concept against every trend.
